Ent

I'm working customer service right now. Definitely nothing glamorous, but it's paying bills. At work, we are divided up in to teams, which most people who have worked customer service are familiar with. My supervisor, knowing I have a few skills in design (or just general art as far as anyone actually cares there), asked me to design a mascot for our team. This is a contest that our whole department is doing. So I figured, what the heck? So, after getting no help or ideas at all from anybody on my team, I pulled together what I saw as some things our team have been working on, growth being one of them as we are all improving and are the second best team in the department but are striving for first. Growth… what can represent growth? A plant? That's totally lame! Wait… a plant… a tree… like… a tree personified as in… Tolkien's ents. Yes. So I went with an ent as our mascot. I was going to do the whole body, but frankly… I'm not able to do this on company time, I was told about it on short notice, have only a few days, and I think I may have already put more effort in to it than what it warrants. It's not perfect, but I'm actually very happy with the outcome.

The ent head itself was initially hand drawn, taken in to Photoshop and after many laborious hours, turned in to the image I have here, which I am actually very happy with. I'm not usually much for Photoshop projects like this. I'm more in to typography and design in general. But this turned out really nice. I think the mouth still needs work and there are a couple spots that could use some fixing. The rest of the project was a medley of lots of things finally thrown together in Illustrator. The lyrics are completely original. I'm actualy pretty okay with the typography here too. It's not phenomenal, but still decent.
